Originally the PPG was formed in October 2012 to serve and represent the Patients of the Surgery of Light – however following the recent merger with Brinsworth Medical Centre the PPG now serves the consolidated practice of the Brinsworth and Whiston Medical Centre.
The group presently meets on a 2 monthly basis alternating meetings between the Whiston and Brinsworth sites; it currently consists of 8 patient representatives and the aim of the group is to represent the patient body and by engaging with staff and management from the practice facilitate a two-way feedback system to review and improve the services and care provided to patients at both sites.
The group is currently looking to enlist members from both sites with a focus on recruiting from the Brinsworth site in order that the interests of that site can be equally understood and balanced.

What is the Patient Participation Group?
The aim of the group is to get patients involved with the practice in a positive way to help improve the health care services it provides through meaningful consultation and participation.
The PPG helps the practice understand patients’ needs from a patient perspective and therefore helps the practice with decision-making. This is a two-way process and also a forum for patients to obtain information about the practice to help them understand how general practice is organised.
Who is involved from the Practice?
The Business Manager and Practice Manager attend each meeting. GPs and other health professionals attend at the request of the group.
What is discussed at the meetings?
The agenda is driven by particular topics that the practice or patients wish to bring to the attention of others. The meetings are chaired by a patient.
When are the meetings held?
The meetings are held quarterly; dates are decided at each meeting and are advertised on the PPG notice boards at each of our sites, and also on our Notice Board.
Do I have to attend each meeting?
No, you do not have to attend each meeting. Once we know that you would like to become involved you can decide for yourself exactly to what extent you would like to participate. If you would just like to receive the minutes of the meetings then please pass on your contact details to the Management Team.
