Prescriptions

All requests for repeat prescriptions must be made in writing and dropped either:

  • In the box provided in the waiting room
  • Through the letter box in the admin building
  • You may also request your prescriptions online using the NHS App.

PLEASE ALLOW TWO WORKING DAYS FOR YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS TO BE READY. ORDER THEM IN TIME TO ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT RUN OUT OF MEDICATION.

You may send a request through the post if you enclose an SAE, but allow longer for this to reach you. Always give full details of the medication required so that mistakes can be avoided.

Please do not order any unnecessary items. It would help us if you order your prescriptions for the whole month at the same time rather than ordering one item one week and another item the following week.

You may also request for your prescriptions to be sent directly to a pharmacy by ensuring you have nominated one with the surgery.

Maintenance

You will be advised to see the doctor at certain intervals for a review of your medication, ie: three monthly, six monthly or yearly.

If you find that you no longer need to use an item of medication that you have been prescribed, please advise the receptionist and this can then be deleted. Please do not stockpile drugs that you are no longer using. If the hospital changes your medication, please inform us of the changes so that we can amend your records.

Prescriptions Policy

We are constantly being asked to control and reduce the ever-increasing cost of the drug budget of the National Health Service. To this end, we try and prescribe drugs by their chemical name (ie generically) except for certain specialist drugs and we constantly review prescriptions so that the best-buy drug can be used in treating any given disease. This means that prescriptions may occasionally change. If you have any doubt about your prescription, please ask to speak to the practice pharmacist or discuss this with the nurse or with your doctor on your next routine visit. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you but anything we can save on the drug budget can be used to treat other medical conditions within the NHS.
